Cost of Sessions & Rebates

The costs of standard psychological consultations/ counselling sessions are:

  • $180 for 1 hour appointments before 4pm weekdays
  • $200 for 1 hour appointments from 4pm weekdays & Saturdays
  • $270 for 1.5 hour appointments.

The consultation fee is payable in full at the end of each session, unless you have been granted funding by an external body (e.g. TAC, WorkSafe, ComCare, VOCAT). In the event you have been granted funding by an external body, Dennison Psychology will invoice them directly for your treatment (please note, this does not apply if you are claiming through Medicare).

Even when an external funding body has agreed to provide funding, gap fees may apply for sessions.

Sessions paid for directly by external funding bodies other than TAC, WorkSafe, ComCare, and VOCAT, are charged in line with the Australian Psychological Society’s recommended fees ($241 per hour, plus gst).

The fees associated with non-standard consultations vary; please contact Dennison Psychology for these.

It should be noted that there tends to be a high demand for after-hour appointments (evenings & Saturdays), and so the cost of these sessions are higher. After-hour appointments are predominantly reserved for those who cannot attend during normal working hours. Furthermore, as most external funding bodies pay lower rates,  there are restrictions as to the time that appointments can be offered – this does not apply to Medicare appointments, in which a gap fee is payable by the patient.

Concessions

Dennison Psychology does not offer bulk billing.

Psychological Reports

Dennison Psychology charges the fees recommended by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) for the writing of psychological reports (this includes those required for legal matters). These fees are $241 per hour, plus gst.

Medicare Rebates

Dennison Psychology offers Medicare rebates (between $84.80 and $124.50 rebate per session). Medicare provides rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year for psychological services. To grant Medicare rebates for psychological services, psychologists require clients to provide a referral letter from a GP or psychiatrist (n.b. you will need to obtain the GP referral letter prior to your session, if you wish to claim it through Medicare). You do not need to obtain a referral from a GP if you do not wish to claim Medicare rebates.

Dennison Psychology does not bulk bill. There will be a gap between the Medicare rebate amount and the amount charged (see fees above).

Private Health Rebates

Some private health insurance policies include psychological/ counselling services. The rebate amount varies between companies and policies. You should check your policy inclusions with your health insurance provider, and determine whether they will provide rebates for the services offered.
